HOUSTON, Texas -- Do more guns really reduce crime? One Texas graduate student says yes. So, he's handing out free shotguns to people in high-crime areas.

Kyle Coplen will be holding his first gun giveaway in the Oak Forest neighborhood in Houston. The Armed Citizen Project picked the neighborhood because it's been hit by a rash of burglaries and robberies. All involved hope the additional guns will deter criminals from preying on their neighborhood.

Anyone getting a gun must pass a background check and a safety and tactical course.
