Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Consider Northern Iowa back on track.

The Panthers suffered their first losing season 2002 a year ago, but Saturday night the perennial Missouri Valley Football Conference got the 2013 campaign off to a rousing start with a 28-20 victory at Iowa State of the Big 12.

Junior running back David Johnson sparked the upset, scoring all four UNI touchdowns. He rushed for 199 yards and scored twice on 23 carries, and caught four passes from Sawyer Kollmorgen for 41 yards and two touchdowns.

UNI (1-0) never trailed in the game.

The Panthers own five all-time wins over Iowa State (1900, 1992. 1994, 2007 and 2013).
