Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - On the back of the club's disappointing exit from the 2012 MLS Cup playoffs, Red Bull New York announced Friday that it has hired Andy Roxburgh to serve as Sporting Director.

Roxburgh, the former Scotland manager and technical director of UEFA, will be responsible for all soccer-related activities at the club.

"I am excited and honored to be given the opportunity by Dietrich Mateschitz to contribute to the development of such an outstanding soccer organization, as the New York Red Bulls," Roxburgh said in a statement. "I'm also delighted to be getting involved in Major League Soccer, which has an impressive reputation as a fast growing and highly competitive league."

Roxburgh is set to begin at his new post immediately.
