New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York forward Bradley Wright- Phillips was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 8 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.

Wright-Phillips netted a hat trick in New York's 4-0 destruction of the Houston Dynamo last Wednesday and added another goal on Saturday in the club's 1-1 stalemate with the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium.

Wright-Phillips opened the scoring against the Dynamo with a right footed shot from the center of the box in the 12th minute and his second goal came 12 minutes later before he completed his treble with a penalty kick four minutes from time. He became the first English player to record a hat trick in MLS.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
