New York, NY (Sports Network) - The MLS Disciplinary Committee announced Thursday that it has suspended Chicago Fire defender Wells Thompson one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for a reckless challenge that endangered the safety of his opponent.

The incident came in the 12th minute of Chicago's match with the Columbus Crew on April 20 when Thompson produced a challenge on Agustin Viana. Thompson was issued a yellow card on the play, but the Committee unanimously determined that further punishment was warranted.

Thompson will serve the suspension this Saturday when the Fire travel to the Stade Saputo to face the Montreal Impact.
