Broce leads by 1 at Club Pro Championship

Myrtle Beach, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jamie Broce managed an even-par 72 on Monday and that gave him the lead after two rounds of the PGA Professional National Championship.

Broce finished two rounds at 4-under-par 140.

Ryan Helminen tripped to a 1-over 73 and ended two rounds at minus-3, where he is alone in second place. Dustin Volk (71), Michael Block (69) and Frank Esposito (71) share third place at 2-under-par 142.

Jim Garrison (72), David Hronek (71) and Grant Sturgeon (71) are tied for ninth at minus-1.

First-round co-leaders Dave McNabb and Johan Kok both struggled to 6-over 78s and they tumbled into a tie for 19th at 1-over 145.

With a field of 311 players, the tournament is split up into two different courses. Broce and Helminen played their second rounds at the Grande Dunes Resort Club, while The Dunes Golf & Beach Club was also used. The Dunes will host the final two rounds.

Broce struggled to a double-bogey on the third, but bounced back with a birdie on the fourth. He later bogeyed the eighth to slip to minus-2. Broce had two birdies and two bogeys in the first five holes around the turn. He birdied the 16th and 18th to grab the lead.

Helminen struggled early as he bogeyed the 12th, then stumbled to double- bogeys at 14 and 15 to fall to plus-1 for the tournament. He got one back with a birdie on the 17th.

Around the turn, Helminen birdied the second, then traded a bogey for a birdie from the third. He closed with birdies on the seventh and ninth to move into second at minus-3.

Defending champion Rod Perry shot 2-over 74 and finished 36 holes at 2-over 146, which left him tied for 31st. The cut line fell at 5-over 149 with 103 players moving on to Tuesday's third round.
