San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks announced the signing of veteran agitator Raffi Torres to a three-year contract.

The 31-year-old veteran played 39 games last season for Phoenix and San Jose, registering seven goals and 11 assists with 17 penalty minutes and 87 hits for the two clubs. The Sharks sent Phoenix a third-round pick in the 2013 draft for the controversial Torres.

"We are very excited to bring Raffi back to San Jose," said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson. "He competes hard in all three zones and brought a lot of ingredients to our lineup last season. We think he is a great fit for our club moving forward."

The gritty forward is perhaps more well-known for his suspension history than his point production.

In May, he was suspended for the remainder of San Jose's playoff series against Los Angeles for his high hit on the Kings' Jarret Stoll in Game 1. His vicious headshot of Chicago's Marian Hossa during a playoff series in April 2012 while with Phoenix produced a suspension of 25 games. It was later reduced to 21 games.

Torres has appeared in 630 career games for the New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix and San Jose, collecting 255 points (134 goals, 121 assists) and 490 penalty minutes.
