San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The Houston Texans will not have their new starting safety on the field when the team takes on the San Diego Chargers, as Ed Reed has been declared out for Monday night's season-opening tilt.

The All-Pro who came over from Baltimore to sign a three-year deal with the Texans this offseason is still working through scar tissue in his surgically repaired hip.

Third-year pro Shiloh Keo is expected to start in Reed's place at free safety.
