East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis will miss the rest of the season after tearing his left Achilles tendon in the first quarter of Sunday's 27-23 loss to the New York Giants.

Davis was running a route in the end zone when he tried to make a cut and immediately fell to the ground. He limped his way to the sidelines before being carted to the locker room to have his left leg examined.

"Achilles...right now it's a tear," Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed after the game. "He'll be out for the year."

The fifth-year pro entered play on Sunday with a team-high 312 receiving yards on 23 catches.
