Florham Park, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets won't start the season with four quarterbacks on the active roster after releasing Brady Quinn on Saturday.

Quinn was signed on Monday when Graham Harrell was released, adding to the club's stable of quarterbacks that includes rookie Geno Smith, Matt Simms and deposed injured starter Mark Sanchez.

Smith will get the start for Sunday's opener against Tampa Bay, while Sanchez is sidelined with a shoulder injury. Speculation is that Sanchez may be out for awhile and could even be placed on injured reserve, which might allow Quinn to return with New York.

Quinn was selected by Cleveland with the 22nd overall pick of the 2007 draft and spent his first three seasons with the Browns. He also spent two seasons with Denver and last year appeared in 10 games for Kansas City.

The Notre Dame product signed with Seattle this offseason, but was among the Seahawks' final roster cuts last weekend. Over six seasons, Quinn has thrown for 3,043 yards with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Linebacker Danny Lansanah was promoted from the Jets' practice squad to fill the active roster spot.
