Berea, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Browns placed cornerback Dimitri Patterson on waivers Monday with two games remaining in the veteran's injury- plagued 2012 season.

Patterson began the 2012 campaign as Cleveland's primary nickel back and started four times in place of suspended starter Joe Haden early in the season, but then missed the team's next seven games due to a serious ankle injury. He returned to action for the Browns' 30-7 victory over Kansas City in Week 14 and was being used in a reserve role over the past two weeks.

The six-year pro, who signed with the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in 2011 following two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, had been credited with 28 tackles and five passes defensed over seven games in 2012.
