Lake Forest, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman said Monday that quarterback Jay Cutler will miss this Sunday's game at St. Louis.

Cutler sat out Chicago's 23-20 overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.

His progress will be updated on a week-to-week basis and Josh McCown will make his second straight start.

Cutler left Chicago's 45-41 loss against the Washington Redskins in Week 7 with a torn muscle in his groin and returned to action against Detroit three weeks later before exiting with the ankle injury.

McCown, who has made two starts and two relief appearances this season in place of Cutler, has completed 61-of-101 passes for 754 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Bears are 2-0 in McCown's starts, but Cutler will return to the starting role when healthy.

"Jay is the quarterback of our football team and Josh is our backup, and all three of us know that," Trestman said Monday.

Trestman also said linebacker Lance Briggs is still a couple of weeks away from returning to action after suffering a fractured shoulder against Washington. Briggs has played in seven games this season, recording 64 tackles with two sacks and two forced fumbles.
