Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Carolina Panthers starting free safety Charles Godfrey will miss the remainder of the season with an Achilles injury, head coach Ron Rivera confirmed on Monday.

Godfrey sustained the injury early in the third quarter of Sunday's 24-23 setback in Buffalo when he broke up a pass in the end zone to help force the Bills to settle for a field goal.

Godfrey, who started 15 games for the Panthers last season, registered 10 tackles, one sack, and two passes defensed over Carolina's first two games prior to the injury.

A third-round pick of the Panthers in 2008, Godfrey has started all but one of the 75 games he has appeared in, racking up 353 tackles, three sacks, 33 passes defensed and 11 interceptions over six seasons in Carolina.

Fellow starting safety Quintin Mikell also left Sunday's game in the third quarter, sustaining an ankle injury after forcing a fumble from Buffalo quarterback E.J. Manuel.

Mikell, who signed a one-year deal with Carolina in the offseason, is listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants.
