Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Panthers have brought cornerback Drayton Florence back into the fold, re-signing the veteran on Thursday to assist an injury-depleted secondary.

Florence was signed by the team in the off-season, but was released during the final roster cuts leading into the start of the season.

The Panthers (0-2) host the New York Giants (0-2) in Week 3.

A 10-year veteran, Florence spent last season with Detroit and totaled 19 tackles, one interceptions and seven passes defensed in eight games.

Drafted in the second round by San Diego in 2003, the 32-year-old has totaled 460 tackles, 18 interceptions and 86 passes defensed in 143 games. He has also played for Jacksonville and Buffalo.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Panthers waived center Brian Folkerts.
