Orchard Park, NY (Sports Network) - Maybe Buffalo is the right fit for kicker Dan Carpenter.

The Bills signed Carpenter to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

The veteran kicker has been released by the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets since Aug. 14.

The Bills were in need of a kicker after rookie Dustin Hopkins suffered an injury during Monday's practice.

Carpenter made the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and was selected to the Pro Bowl a season later after connecting on 25-of-28 field goal attempts and compiling 112 points. He also holds the franchise record for the longest field goal made, a 60-yarder against Cleveland on Dec. 5, 2010.

The 27-year-old finished with a career-low 92 points last season, however, while hitting on 22-of-27 field goals.

During his tenure with the Dolphins (2008-12), Carpenter went 127-of-155 on field goals (81.9 percent) and missed just one point-after attempt in 155 tries.
