Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Bills announced Monday that rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel has been cleared to return from a knee injury.
Manuel has missed the last four games with an LCL sprain suffered on Oct. 3 against the Cleveland Browns. Jeff Tuel and Thad Lewis have each spent time at quarterback during Manuel's absence.
Lewis started three games before hurting his ribs in Week 8 against New Orleans. Tuel completed 18-of-39 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 23-13 loss to the undefeated Chiefs. Buffalo went 1-3 with Manuel sidelined.
The 16th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Manuel has thrown for 985 yards, five touchdowns and thee interceptions in five games this season.
Manuel's playing status will be determined by his performance in practice this week.
Due to his return, Buffalo has released quarterback Matt Flynn, who spent just three weeks on the roster and did not appear in a game.
The 3-6 Bills play the Steelers on Sunday.
