Recap: Philadelphia vs. Dallas

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points on 9- of-12 shooting in the Dallas Mavericks' 124-112 victory over the struggling Philadelphia 76ers.

Nowitzki went 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and also pulled down seven rebounds for the Mavericks, who started a three-game road trip on Friday. Shawn Marion tallied 22 points and seven boards.

DeJuan Blair and Monta Ellis added 18 and 11 points, respectively, for Dallas, which has won seven of nine.

"We expected it to be 48 minutes of hell with them chasing the ball all over the place. (Brett Brown) coaches his team harder than any coach in the league," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle said.

Thaddeus Young ended with 30 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and seven steals for the Sixers, who have lost 10 in a row and nine straight at home. Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Wroten had 25 and 21 points, respectively.

"I just tried to be very, very motivated, play hard and to finish it the right way and try to help my team win games," Young said.

Philadelphia had just eight players in uniform after being very active during Thursday's trade deadline. The biggest move of the deadline saw the Sixers ship Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Danny Granger, a former All-Star turned role player, and a 2015 second-round pick.

The 76ers traded center Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday and, combined with a small deal involving the Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets, acquired Earl Clark, Harry Sims, Eric Maynor and four second-round picks. The Sixers waived Clark on Friday.

One final move brought center Byron Mullens to Philadelphia from the Los Angeles Clippers.

Nowitzki and the Mavericks came out of the gates on fire, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Later in the first quarter, Dallas went on a 21-5 run to build a 37-15 margin.

The Mavericks held a 41-23 cushion after 12 minutes of action. Nowitzki had 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

Trailing 48-32 with 9:47 remaining in the second stanza, the Sixers went on an 18-7 run. Elliot Williams' three-point play cut the gap to 55-50 with 3:48 to go.

But the Mavericks regained a double-digit lead before taking a 69-62 edge into the locker room.

Philadelphia got within 77-73 on Arnett Moultrie's layup with 7:38 left in the third period. Dallas, however, responded with the next nine points.
