Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox activated reliever Clayton Mortensen from the 15-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

Mortensen had been placed on the DL on June 11 with a right groin strain. Prior to the injury, the right-hander posted a 1-2 record with a 5.34 earned run average over 24 appearances and ranks second among Boston relievers in innings pitched (30 1/3).

Pedro Beato, who threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Rockies after being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket earlier in the day, was optioned back to the PawSox in a corresponding move.
