Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ross Ohlendorf will return to the Washington Nationals' starting rotation for Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs, with the team activating the right-hander from the 15-day disabled list.

Ohlendorf has been sidelined since July 31 with inflammation in his right shoulder. He had been pitching well prior to being shelved, recording a 1.85 earned run average along with a 2-0 mark over two starts and eight relief appearances following a promotion from Triple-A in mid-June.

The 31-year-old journeyman is expected to receive an extended look as a starter with the Nationals opting to shut down youngster Taylor Jordan for the remainder of the season. The rookie is in his first season back from Tommy John surgery performed in 2011.

Washington optioned reliever Ian Krol to Triple-A Syracuse following Tuesday's matchup against the Cubs to make room for Ohlendorf on the active roster. The left-hander went 1-1 with a 3.24 ERA in 27 appearances out of the bullpen.
