Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Former Philadelphia Phillies catcher and fan favorite Darren Daulton has a pair of brain tumors and will undergo surgery next week.

The news was released by WPEN, an FM sports radio station in Philadelphia. Daulton hosts a show called "Talking Baseball with Dutch" on the station.

"Darren Daulton has two brain tumors; both of which are scheduled to be operated on and removed this Monday," said Daulton's attorney, Brett Datto. "The first tumor is small and doctors are optimistic it can easily be removed. The second tumor is larger and presents a more difficult surgery, but Daulton's physicians are confident that they can remove most, if not all of it. Both tumors will be biopsied after the surgery. Daulton is awake, alert and feeling confident that the surgery will be a success.

"Daulton appreciates the outpouring of love, support and prayers that have been coming in from family, friends, fans and teammates from around the country," added Datto.

In typical Daulton fashion, the former all-star stated "right on, fight on!"

Daulton, 51, began his major league career in 1983 and retired in 1997, playing every season with the Phillies and splitting the last year with the Florida Marlins. He was a career .245 hitter with 137 homers and 588 RBI.

His best season came in 1992, when he had career bests of 27 homers and 109 RBI. During the Phillies' 1993 NL championship season, Daulton had 24 homers and 105 RBI.
