Recap: Colorado vs. Cincinnati

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Charlie Culberson hit a three-run home run to help the Colorado Rockies defeat the Cincinnati Reds, 7-3, in the opener of a four-game set from Coors Field.

Charlie Blackmon, Drew Stubbs, Corey Dickerson and Wilin Rosario each had an RBI for the Rockies, who snapped a three-game skid. Jorge De La Rosa (12-8) got the win after going seven innings and yielding three runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

"When your starter gets through seven, things tend to fall into place," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Charlie has been grinding all year. That was a big home run by him tonight."

Cincinnati's Alfredo Simon (12-8) lost his fifth straight decision, allowing seven runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits over five innings.

Ryan Ludwick homered with two RBI and Zack Cozart added an RBI for the Reds, who have dropped three in a row.

"(Simon) made some mistakes and they hit him hard," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He pitched ahead better today, but they were very comfortable at the plate."

Devin Mesoraco led off the second inning with a walk and raced home on Ludwick's double to left. Following a groundout from Skip Schumaker and a strikeout of Kris Negron, Cozart brought Ludwick home with a single to left.

Back-to-back doubles from Dickerson and Rosario with one out in the home second helped the Rockies cut the deficit to 2-1.

Blackmon, Stubbs and Justin Morneau all singled to load the bases with no outs in the third, then Dickerson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right. Rosario grounded out in the following at-bat to keep the game knotted at 2-2.

Culberson singled to begin the fourth and moved over to third when DJ LeMahieu reached on a throwing error by Simon. Blackmon's groundout pushed Culberson across, which preceded Stubbs' single to center that plated LeMahieu.

Nolan Arenado and Rosario wrapped singles around a Dickerson lineout, then Culberson smashed his third long ball of the season to increase the lead to 7-2.

Ludwick's solo homer in the sixth accounted for the final margin.
