Recap: LA Angels vs. Texas

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Howie Kendrick drove in the winning run in the 10th inning to give the LA Angels of Anaheim a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game set.

Josh Hamilton led off the inning with a single off the glove of pitcher Neal Cotts (2-4) and Jason Frasor came on to face Kendrick.

Kendrick worked the count full, and smacked a pitch into a huge gap in left center and Hamilton, running on the pitch, easily scored for the win.

"I put a good swing on it and there was a big gap," said Kendrick. "I picked the right spot. I looked to see if Hamilton was and I knew he was going to score. It's pretty exciting."

C.J. Cron hit a solo home run and Efren Navarro also drove in one for the Angels, who have won three of their last four. Mike Morin (1-1) struck out the side in the 10th for his first career win.

Shin-Soo Choo hit a solo homer and drove in both runs for the Rangers, who have dropped four straight.

Neither starter factored into the decision, as Nick Martinez gave up two runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in seven-plus innings for Texas, while Jered Weaver pitched eight innings and allowed a run on four hits while striking out five and walking two for the Angels.

"Martinez was great," praised Texas manager Ron Washington. "He moved the ball around. He gave us an opportunity. We just didn't come up with the big hit."

The Rangers scored in their first at-bat as Leonys Martin led off with a double, moved to third on an Elvis Andrus groundout and came home on another groundout from Choo.

Martinez carried a perfect game into the sixth inning, but Hank Conger doubled to lead off the frame and moved to third on a David Freese groundout. Navarro then grounded out to score Conger and tie the game.

The Angels took the lead in the eighth as Cron led off the frame with a homer just off the glove of a leaping Choo in left field, but Choo returned the favor in the ninth with his seventh of the year.

Game Notes

The Angels have won three of the five games against the Rangers this season ... Both teams failed to get a hit with a runner in scoring position, as Texas was 0-for-7 and LA 0-for-2 ... Yu Darvish pitches for Texas on Sunday, while Matt Shoemaker takes the mound for LA.
