Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Tampa Bay
Bradenton, FL (Sports Network) - Stefan Welch hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 6-4 decision over the Tampa Bay Rays in a Grapefruit League matchup.
Felix Pie had an RBI double earlier on for the Pirates, with John McDonald adding a run-scoring single in the victory. Pittsburgh starter Jeanmar Gomez contributed a solid four innings to the win, with the right-hander yielding just one run on three hits.
Ben Zobrist went 2-for-4 with a solo home run for Tampa Bay, while Luke Scott doubled twice and finished with an RBI and two runs scored.
Alex Cobb worked the first 6 1/3 innings for the Rays and allowed three runs while striking out five. Dane De La Rosa was charged with the loss after being charged with a pair of runs surrendered over 1 1/3 frames.
