Recap: Minnesota vs. Chicago WSox

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Chris Herrmann's game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in the opener of a four-game set.

Ramon Troncoso (1-4) gave up a single to Trevor Plouffe to lead off the ninth and Plouffe moved to second on a passed ball. After Chris Colabello walked, Clete Thomas tried to bunt both runners over, but Chicago got the force out at third.

Herrmann, who pinch-hit for Pedro Florimon, snuck a single through the hole on the right side of the infield to plate pinch-runner Doug Bernier for the winning run.

Plouffe cracked a solo homer and Jared Burton (2-6) picked up the win with a scoreless top of the ninth for the Twins, who overcame a 3-0 deficit.

They trailed 3-2 in the eighth before Joe Mauer hit a one-out double and scored to knot the contest when Justin Morneau stepped up next and singled through the hole on the right side of the infield.

White Sox starter Andre Rienzo allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits over six frames for Chicago, which has dropped back-to-back tilts.

"I believe in the guys and the guys tried hard to get a win and I tried hard to give them a chance to win," Rienzo said of his outing. "Next time maybe I'll be better and help the team."

Earlier, the White Sox jumped ahead quickly after plating a pair of runs in the opening frame.

Alejandro De Aza and Gordon Beckham singled to lead off the inning before Alexei Ramirez popped out. De Aza scored on Adam Dunn's single to center and Paul Konerko brought Beckham home with a sacrifice fly to right.

"After that first inning I thought I got a little better and the tempo was good," Minnesota starter Mike Pelfrey said. "I was throwing strikes and being efficient which definitely helps with the pace."

Chicago added a run in the third on a Ramirez sacrifice fly before the Twins pushed across a run in the fifth and then again in the sixth to pull within 3-2.

Plouffe belted a one-out solo shot to left-center in the fifth and Brian Dozier, who reached on a Ramirez fielding error to begin the sixth, scored on a Josh Willingham base hit later in the frame.

Game Notes

Pelfrey gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings ... The Twins were 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position, while Chicago finished 1-for-8 with RISP.
