Recap: Detroit vs. Washington

Lakeland, FL (Sports Network) - Xavier Paul broke a tie with a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning and the Washington Nationals posted a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Steve Lombardozzi went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI for the Nationals, while starter Mitch Atkins tossed five innings and struck out six Detroit batters.

Brennan Boesch clubbed a three-run homer to account for the Tigers' offense. Max Scherzer surrendered 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings.
