Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals have fired hitting coach Rick Eckstein, replacing him with Rick Schu.

The Nationals have struggled offensively this season, entering Monday tied for 28th in runs (362) and ranking 27th with a .240 team batting average.

Eckstein was named the Nationals' hitting coach in October 2008. He was the longest-tenured hitting coach in the NL East.

Schu joins manager Davey Johnson's staff after spending the last four seasons as the team's minor-league hitting coordinator.
