Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed catcher Ryan Hanigan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring on Wednesday.

The move is retroactive to May 27.

Hanigan left Monday night's 10-5 loss to Toronto with the injury. He was also sidelined for three games earlier in the month due to the same hamstring.

In his first season with the Rays and eighth in the majors, the 33-year-old has hit for an average of .212 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 42 games.

Tampa Bay recalled outfielder Kevin Kiermaier from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.

Kiermaier has homered and driven in two runners in five games for the Rays this season.
