Cardinals call up P Blazek

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals recalled pitcher Michael Blazek from Triple-A Memphis Wednesday and optioned pitcher Carlos Martinez to the Redbirds.

Blazek has appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals this season, striking out 10 batters over 8 2/3 innings. The right-hander went 1-2 with a 2.77 earned run average and two saves in 19 games at Memphis.

Martinez made his major league debut with St. Louis on May 3 and earned his first big league victory on Monday after spinning two innings of one-run ball in an 8-6 win over Cincinnati.

The 21-year-old right-hander has compiled a 1-1 record and a 6.00 ERA over 12 games (one start) with the Cardinals this season.
