San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres recalled pitcher Tommy Layne from Triple-A Tucson and optioned pitcher Miles Mikolas to the minors prior to Monday's opener of a three-game series versus the Philadelphia Phillies.

The left-handed Layne joins the Padres for the third time this season and has gone 0-1 with 1.59 earned run average in six relief appearances this year.

Mikolas was recalled prior to Sunday's tilt versus the Los Angeles Dodgers, but did not make an appearance. Over 32 games for Tucson this year, he has compiled a 2-1 record with 14 saves and a 3.57 ERA. He registered a 2-1 record with San Diego last season, including a 3.62 ERA in 25 games.
