San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres selected the contract of veteran infielder Ronny Cedeno from Single-A Lake Elsinore Tuesday.

The move comes just one day after All-Star shortstop Everth Cabrera was slapped with a 50-game suspension for his connection to Biogenesis of America, the now-closed South Florida anti-aging clinic accused of supplying performance-enhancing substances.

Cedeno signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Aug. 2 and played in two games at Lake Elsinore, going 1-for-8 with a double, a run scored and two walks.

The 30-year-old Cedeno started the season in Houston, where he batted .220 with one home run and 12 RBI in 51 games before being designated for assignment on July 22.

The native of Venezuela has hit .245 with 114 doubles, 38 home runs, 230 RBI and 253 runs scored in 830 games played over parts of nine seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets and Astros.
