A's place Colon on DL with groin strain

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics placed pitcher Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain.

Colon, 40, has compiled a 14-5 record with a 2.97 earned run average and three shutouts over 24 starts this season. However, the 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner has struggled in his last two starts, surrendering 10 earned runs on 14 hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Tommy Milone was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and will start on Sunday against the Indians. Milone went 9-9 with a 4.39 ERA in 22 starts this season before being optioned to Sacramento on August 3.
