Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics selected the contract of pitcher Sonny Gray from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

Gray, the A's top pitching prospect, went 8-5 with a 2.81 ERA in 16 starts with Sacramento this season. He also leads the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts (107) and is tied for second in wins.

To make room on the roster for Gray, Oakland optioned pitcher Dan Straily to Sacramento. He gave up just two hits and walked three while striking out seven over 6 1/3 innings during Tuesday's victory.

The right-hander was 6-2 with a 4.28 ERA in 14 starts with the Athletics this year.
