Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees have placed infielder Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list with a lumbar spine sprain.

Youkilis had missed six games last week battling the injury, but did play on Saturday, before sitting out on Sunday and Monday.

An MRI on Monday came back negative, but Youkilis is scheduled to receive an epidural injection of a pain killer on Tuesday.

Over 17 games this season, Youkilis is batting .266 with two home runs and seven RBI.

To replace Youkilis on the active roster, the Yankees recalled infielder Corban Joseph from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Over 22 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Joseph is batting .273 with four homer runs and nine RBI.
