Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - After the New York Mets rallied for a 5-4 win against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, manager Terry Collins announced that shortstop Ruben Tejada suffered a broken right fibula in the victory.

Tejada sustained the injury while making a running catch in the top of the ninth inning. After making the snag, he was tripped up by a charging Andrew Brown in left. Tejada finished the inning, but was pinch-hit for during New York's four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth.

Collins said he expects Tejada to be sidelined 6-8 weeks.

It's been a tumultuous season for the 23-year-old. He played in just 56 games for the Mets this season after putting forth a promising campaign in 2012.

With his work ethic put into question by Mets management, Tejada spent three- plus months in the minors before finally being recalled by the team on Sept. 11. He batted just .202 with 10 RBI for the season.
