Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins named Craig Weissmann vice president, player personnel on Friday.

Weissmann joins the Marlins from the Oakland Athletics, where he spent the last seven seasons, most recently serving as a special assignment scout (2012-13). He began his time in Oakland as an area scout in 2006, before becoming a professional scout from 2007-11.

Prior to joining the A's, Weissmann served as a scout for eight years with the Tampa Bay Rays, and four with the Seattle Mariners.

Originally drafted by the Cubs in 1979, Weissmann, a right-handed pitcher, played 11 seasons in the minors before joining the San Diego Padres organization as a scout in 1992.
