Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Mike Redmond has returned to the Marlins franchise, but this time as the club's new manager.

The 41-year-old takes over for Ozzie Guillen, who was fired on Oct. 23 after one season as skipper.

Redmond was signed by the Marlins as a free agent in 1992, and spent the first seven years of his major league career (1998-2004) with the south Florida club. He will be formally introduced at a press conference on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
