Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed pitcher Kevin Jepsen on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 21, with appendicitis.

The 29-year-old right-hander, who owns a 1-3 record with a 4.50 earned run average over 45 relief appearances this season, is expected to undergo an emergency appendectomy in Seattle on Saturday.

To replace Jepsen on the roster, the Angels recalled outfielder Collin Cowgill from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Cowgill, 27, has batted .298 with one home run and three RBI in 25 games with the Halos this season.
