Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello had his recent suspension reduced to five games, and will begin serving it immediately after dropping his appeal Thursday morning.

Porcello was initially suspended six games after intentionally throwing a pitch at Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist on June 30.

The right-hander's intention was to appeal just to make one more start before the All-Star Game, which he did on Wednesday against the White Sox. He allowed three runs on seven hits with no walks while fanning six over six innings.

He is 6-6 with a 4.80 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) this year.
