Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals with a left foot contusion.

The injury occurred in the bottom of the first inning with Gonzalez on deck. Jordan Pacheco's foul liner struck Gonzalez near the ankle. Gonzalez was unable to bat and Tyler Colvin took his place.

X-rays were negative, the team announced.

Gonzalez is hitting .299 with a team-leading 18 homers and 52 RBI.

In addition, center fielder Dexter Fowler was removed from the game in the fifth inning, two frames after being hit on the hand by a pitch while attempting to bunt.

Fowler was examined after the incident was originally deemed well enough to stay in the game.
