Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs are set to name Rick Renteria their new manager as early as Thursday.

Both MLB.com and the Tribune reported the news on Wednesday evening, that the 51-year-old, who served as bench coach for the San Diego Padres since 2011, is likely to be selected to take the reins for Dale Sveum.

Sveum finished his two-year stint with a 127-197 record, including a 66-96 record in 2013, and was fired on September 30.

Renteria had previously interviewed for the vacant managerial positions with the Tigers and Mariners.
