St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs on Saturday selected the contract of outfielder Darnell McDonald from Triple-A Iowa and transferred outfielder Thomas Neal to the 60-day disabled list.

McDonald is set to make his 2013 major-league debut, after hitting .236 with four homers, 13 doubles and 26 RBI in 96 games for Iowa.

Last year, McDonald split 42 games between the Red Sox and Yankees, batting just .205 with two homers and nine runs batted in.

The 34-year-old journeyman has 306 games of pro experience with five teams since 2004, a career .246 hitter.

Neal suffered a dislocated right shoulder in Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.

Chicago also optioned catcher J.C. Boscan back to Iowa, after recalling him on Thursday. Boscan did not appear in a game. He appeared in 11 games for the Braves from 2010-12.
