Mesa, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs agreed to terms with pitchers James McDonald and Jason Hammel on one-year contracts Thursday.

McDonald joins the Cubs after spending the past three-plus seasons with Pittsburgh and is coming off an injury-plagued 2013. He made only six starts for the Pirates last year, none after April 30, due to right shoulder discomfort.

The 29-year-old won a career-high 12 games in 2012 and has compiled a 32-30 record with a 4.20 earned run average in 131 major league appearances (82 starts) with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pirates.

Hammel went 7-8 with a 4.97 ERA in 23 starts and three relief outings last season, his second with Baltimore.

A two-time 10-game winner with Colorado, the 31-year-old right-hander has made at least 20 starts in each of the last five years.

For his career, Hammel is 49-59 with a 4.80 ERA in 215 games (158 starts) with Tampa Bay, Colorado and Baltimore.
