Towson, MD (Sports Network) - The Colonial Athletic Association has suspended Towson senior free safety Jordan Dangerfield from a critical conference game at New Hampshire on Saturday as a result of his two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against Rhode Island last weekend.
Nineteenth-ranked Towson (6-4) and seventh-ranked UNH (8-2) are both alive for the CAA title and its automatic qualifying bid to the FCS playoffs.
Dangerfield's suspension is the result of two plays in Towson's 41-10 win over Rhode Island last Saturday. CAA commissioner Tom Yeager and CAA football coordinator of officials Jim Maconaghy reviewed the video of the plays, along with the National Coordinator of Football Officials and his advisory panel, before handing out the suspension, which was announced Thursday.
The three-year starter, from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., has made 69 tackles this season - second on the team - with a team-leading six pass breakups.
"It is unfortunate for our team that we will have to play such an important and historic game without our All-American safety Jordan Dangerfield," Towson coach Rob Ambrose said. "With that being said, I have great confidence that our team will rise to the challenge once again as they have continued to support each other through adversity all season long."
