Recap: Iowa vs. Iowa State

Iowa City, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Cole Netten connected on a 42-yard field goal with two second remaining in the contest, and the Iowa State Cyclones held on to beat the Iowa Hawkeyes, 20-17, in a non-conference intrastate rivalry matchup at Kinnick Stadium Saturday.

S.B. Richardson completed 25-of-37 pass attempts for 255 yards and two touchdowns to lead Iowa State (1-2). Allen Lazard caught a team-high five passes for 53 yards, while Aaron Wimberly led the Cyclones' ground attack with 33 yards on 11 carries.

Jake Rudock hit on 16-of-24 passing for 146 yards and an interception, and also gained 39 rushing yards and a touchdown for Iowa (2-1). Mark Weisman carried the ball 16 times for a team-high 49 yards with a touchdown, and Quinton Alston registered a game-high 10 tackles in the loss.

Weisman put Iowa on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run that capped a 16-play, 55-yard drive. His score, with 2:53 to play in the first quarter, was the only one of the period.

Netten connected on a 47-yard field goal with 13:44 to play in the second frame, putting the Cyclones down 7-3.

Rudock scored Iowa's second rushing touchdown of the day, this a five-yard carry, giving the Hawkeyes a 14-7 advantage with 3:52 to play in the half.

With 6:50 left to go in the third quarter, Richardson found E.J. Bibbs on a one-yard touchdown pass to cut Iowa's lead to 14-10.

The Cyclones took their first lead of the game with 7:33 remaining in the contest thanks to a 27-yard pass hookup from Richardson to DeVondrick Nealy. That lead only lasted just over three minutes, as Marshall Koehn hit a 44-yard field goal for Iowa with 4:08 to play to knot the score.

Netten broke the tie with his final kick, giving the Cyclones their first win of the season.

The Hawkeyes had possession of the ball over seven minutes longer than the Cyclones in the contest (33:34 to 26:26 in favor of Iowa). Defensively, Iowa State had the advantage in tackles for loss (9-2) and in sacks (2-0).
