Recap: Notre Dame vs. Michigan

South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - The final scheduled meeting between Notre Dame and Michigan was a one-sided affair.

The 16th-ranked Fighting Irish shut out the Wolverines for the first time in the series' history, 31-0, on Saturday night.

Everett Golson had three touchdown passes and Cam McDaniel added a rushing score for Notre Dame (2-0).

"As you can imagine, we're pleased with the victory," said Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. "Shutting out any opponent in college football is an enormous task with offenses today. Great performance by our defense, great performance by our coaches."

Devin Gardner committed four second-half turnovers that foiled any chance of the Wolverines (1-1) erasing a 21-0 halftime deficit.

Michigan was blanked for the first time since 1984, snapping an NCAA record streak of 376 games.

Matt Wile missed field goals of 46 and 48 yards on Michigan's first two drives.

The Wolverines were flagged for pass interference twice on the Irish's second possession, the second time in the end zone. McDaniel punched it in from a yard out to open the scoring.

In the second quarter, Golson converted a 4th-and-3 from the Michigan 36 with an 11-yard toss to William Fuller. He then connected with Corey Robinson for 22 yards before finding Amir Carlisle for a 1-yard touchdown on 3rd-and-goal.

After the Wolverines went three-and-out, Fuller made a leaping grab for a 24- yard score with 34 seconds left in the first half.

Gardner threw the first of his three interceptions on the opening drive of the third quarter.

Notre Dame didn't capitalize on the turnover, but later in the third, Golson used a bubble screen to Carlisle, who raced into the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown.

Gardner lost a fumble on the next Michigan drive and was picked off early in the fourth quarter.

Kyle Brindza added a 43-yard field goal for the Irish.
