Recap: UNLV vs. San Diego St

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Caleb Herring threw for 270 yards and a career-high five touchdowns as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels dismissed the San Diego State Aztecs, 45-19, in Mountain West Conference action at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Herring completed 20-of-30 passes while also rushing for 60 yards and an additional score for UNLV (7-5, 5-3 MWC), which ended its regular season with back-to-back wins. Devante Davis caught eight passes for a season-high 171 yards and was on the receiving end of four of Herring's touchdowns.

Quinn Kaehler was 24-of-46 for 239 yards with a touchdown and two picks for SDSU (7-5, 6-2), which snapped a four-game winning streak. Colin Lockett tallied seven receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown, while Donnel Pumphrey turned 13 carries into 87 yards and a score.

SDSU struck less than a minute into the game when Kaehler hooked up with Lockett for a 39-yard touchdown, but the Rebels answered on their first possession on a five-yard scoring strike from Herring to Davis.

Herring and Davis connected on two more scores in the quarter, one from 10 yards out and the other a 63-yard strike, as the Rebels ran out to a 21-7 lead.

The Rebels added to their advantage with less than two minutes to play in the half when Nolan Kohorst booted a 50-yard field goal.

UNLV further padded its lead on the first drive of the second half, as it capped off a seven-play, 67-yard possession with a five-yard touchdown rush by Herring.

After 35 unanswered points by the Rebels, SDSU finally stopped the bleeding late in the third quarter when Pumphrey rushed in a score from one yard out, although the ensuing PAT was missed.

Herring added to his outstanding performance early in the fourth quarter. He tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Sullivan at the 14:43 mark of the frame, then three minutes later he hooked up with Davis for yet another score from six yards away, allowing Davis to tie UNLV's single-game record for receiving touchdowns.

The Aztecs scored midway through the fourth quarter when Tim Vizzi returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown, although the ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed.

UNLV outgained SDSU on the evening, 401-327.
