Recap: Bowling Green vs. Massachusetts

Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Johnson threw three touchdown passes as the Bowling Green Falcons dismissed the Minutemen of Massachusetts, 28-7, in Mid-American Conference play at Doyt Perry Stadium.

Johnson completed 11 of his 20 pass attempts, leading to 166 yards for the Falcons (5-1, 3-0 MAC) who remain in charge in the MAC East standings thanks to a third straight win. Giving the hosts a boost on the ground was Travis Greene as he ran for a game-high 160 yards on 22 attempts.

The Minutemen (0-5, 0-1), losers of seven in a row dating back to last season, were held scoreless for more than 55 minutes on the day as quarterbacks A.J. Doyle and Mike Wegzyn combined to convert just 11-of-25 for 96 yards and an interception. Jamal Wilson produced 119 rushing yards on 20 carries.

Following a scoreless first quarter Johnson capped off a seven-play, 91-yard drive with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie Moore midway through the second frame. William Houston made the score 14-0 with just 1:15 remaining before the half when he made his way into the end zone on a one-yard run.

Bowling Green's advantage swelled to 28-0 in the third thanks to touchdown receptions of 23 and nine yards by Tyler Beck and Heath Jackson, respectively.

Following eight punts and the end of a drive due to halftime, UMass had one of its more promising drives late in the third halted by an interception. The team's only possession in the fourth quarter began on the 29 yard line and finished up in the end zone more than six minutes later when Wegzyn found Tajae Sharpe with a 24-yard TD pass with 4:34 remaining.

UMass, which generated just 280 yards of total offense on the day, entered the weekend ranked 121st in the country in total offense with 258.5 ypg and was also 122nd in the nation with a mere 7.0 ppg.
