Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Keith Wenning tossed five touchdown passes as the Ball State Cardinals claimed a 42-24 win over the Akron Zips in Mid- American Conference play at InfoCision Stadium.

Jordan Williams paced the receiving corps with 12 catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns, while Willie Snead had seven catches for 100 yards and a pair of TDs. On the ground, Jahwan Edwards carried 25 times for 120 yards and a score for the Cardinals (8-1, 5-0), who sit atop the MAC West Division.

Jawon Chisholm paced Akron (2-7, 1-4) with 166 rushing yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Kyle Pohl threw for one touchdown and ran for another, although he completed only 17-of-35 passes for 211 yards and was intercepted twice.

Wenning led Ball State on an eight-play, 75-yard drive on the game's opening possession, which ended with a 12-yard touchdown catch by Snead.

Following a 51-yard field goal from Akron kicker Robert Stein, the Cardinals made it a 14-3 game on Wenning's six-yard touchdown pass to Snead with 5:43 to play in the first quarter.

The Zips cut the deficit to 14-10 on Chisholm's 65-yard touchdown run at the 5:49 mark of the second quarter.

However, the Cardinals answered right back with a scoring drive of their own, as Edwards found the end zone on a three-yard run to stretch the margin to 21-10.

After the defense forced a three-and-out, Ball State got the ball back and Wenning capitalized with an eight-yard scoring strike to Williams with 26 seconds to play in the half.

Akron trimmed the margin to 28-17 midway through the third quarter on Pohl's 15-yard TD scamper.

But Wenning was not done yet. He tossed a 20-yard TD pass to Williams late in the third quarter to make it a 35-17 game. The Zips managed to hang around thanks to Pohl's two-yard scoring strike to Jerome Lewis midway through the fourth quarter. However, Wenning responded with yet another TD pass, this time to Jamill Smith at the 6:02 mark of the fourth quarter to put the Cardinals comfortably ahead, 42-24.

Akron out-gained BSU in total offense, 437-434. However, the Zips turned the ball over three times and were penalized eight times on the day.
