Recap: Virginia vs. Georgia Tech

Charlottesville, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Georgia Tech had three 100-yard rushers, as the Yellow Jackets notched a 35-25 win over the Virginia Cavaliers in Atlantic Coast Conference play from Scott Stadium.

Zach Laskey led the way with 133 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Robert Godhigh had 111 yards and a TD on the ground, and David Sims finished with 107 rushing yards and a pair of scores. Thanks largely to the contributions from that trio, Georgia Tech (5-3, 4-2 ACC) managed to win despite committing five turnovers.

Darius Jennings had 13 catches for 119 yards and two TDs for the Cavaliers (2-6, 0-4), who suffered their fifth straight loss. Tim Smith tallied 10 catches for 150 yards, while quarterback David Watford was 43-of-61 for 376 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Georgia Tech needed only three plays to get on the scoreboard, as Sims broke free for a 36-yard touchdown run to give the Yellow Jackets a quick 7-0 lead.

Virginia put together a 13-play, 87-yard drive that lasted more than six minutes and stretched into the second quarter. However, that drive eventually stalled and the Cavaliers had to settle for a 28-yard field goal from Alec Vozenilek.

Georgia Tech took a 14-3 lead on Laskey's seven-yard TD scamper midway through the second quarter.

However, UVA answered right back with another long drive, only this time Kevin Parks capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown scamper to make it a 14-10 game.

The score would remain that way until just under five minutes to play in the third quarter, when Laskey notched his second TD of the day on a four-yard run to push the Yellow Jackets' lead to 21-10.

UVA continued to hang around, and Watford found Jennings for a five-yard touchdown pass at the 14:45 mark of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 21-17. That score capped a 12-play, 88-yard drive.

However, Georgia Tech needed only four plays to find the end zone again, as Godhigh broke free for a 65-yard TD scamper to put the Yellow Jackets back on top by 11.

A 12-yard touchdown pass from Watford to Jennings with 3:23 to play in regulation trimmed the margin to 28-25. But the Yellow Jackets put the game away with another touchdown drive as Sims scored on a 29-yard run with less than two minutes on the clock.

The Cavaliers simply had no answer for Georgia Tech's option attack, as the Yellow Jackets averaged 7.6 yards per carry as a team and compiled 14 of their 18 first downs on the ground.
