Recap: Kansas vs. Louisiana Tech

Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Matthew Wyman's 52-yard field goal as time expired pushed the Kansas Jayhawks to a thrilling 13-10 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in non-conference play at Memorial Stadium.

Kansas (2-1), which finished just 1-11 a season ago with the lone victory coming against South Dakota State (31-17) in the opener, was led by quarterback Jake Heaps who converted 28-of-46 passes for 279 yards and a score, but he was also picked off twice in the decision. Tony Pierson recorded nine catches for 82 yards.

The Bulldogs (1-3) were paced by Ryan Higgins who hit on 35-of-55 for 289 yards and a score, but he tossed one interception and was sacked three times on the day as the team bowed for the second time in as many outings. Running back Kenneth Dixon registered his second 100-yard game of the season and the eight of his career as he ran for a game-high 129 yards on 18 carries.

Outside of a few turnovers, the first quarter was pretty much uneventful until the final seconds when Higgins combined with Hunter Lee on an eight-yard touchdown pass play to give the visitors a 7-0 advantage.

Similarly, the second quarter featured just one scoring play as well, a 39- yard field goal Wyman, leaving the Bulldogs with a four-point advantage heading into intermission. Wyman had missed on a 28-yard effort in the second as well.

After their opening drive of the second half stalled at the 22-yard line, the Bulldogs turned to Kyle Fischer for a 39-yard field goal to extend the lead to seven points. Fischer had failed on attempts from 37 and 40 yards in the second quarter, misses that proved to be crucial.

In the fourth the Jayhawks knotted the score at 10-10 when an eight-play, 80- yard drive ended with a 22-yard TD strike from Heaps to Jimmay Mundine at the 9:54 mark, setting the stage for Wyman's eventual game winner.
